A new monitoring system is now in use to control Turkish Van cats, a rare breed of domestic cats, throughout the country.
The Van Cat Research Centre at Yuzuncu Yil University has designed the monitoring system that will record all details about Turkish Van cats, helping them to control their breeding and condition much more easily. The computer-assisted system will also document the addresses of the cat owners and the information will be updated on a regular basis.
Abdullah Kaya, the head of the research centre, said that they have carried out many projects on the protection of Turkish Van cats and have received satisfactory results so far. The Van cat is known for its friendly demeanour, silky fur, lion-like walk, fluffy tail, eyes that are two different colours and a fondness for water, and is one of the rare animal species that is not hybridized.
