As Turkey’s busiest and most dynamic airport, İstanbul Atatürk Airport has been gaining extensive international recognition and has been named the Best Airport in Southern Europe for the second time by Skytrax.
According to the results of Skytrax’s World Airport Awards 2013, İstanbul’s aviation hub was named the Best Airport in Southern Europe once again, after receiving the award in 2010. Last year’s number one airport, Barcelona-El Prat Airport, took second place this year, followed by another Spanish airport, Madrid-Barajas Airport.
TAV Airports Holding Business Development Director Serkan Kaptan, speaking at the awards ceremony in Brussels on Wednesday, stated that the company is proud to represent Turkey in the global aviation sector and that the award is a sign that the company’s efforts continue to carry it further toward its goals. “
TAV’s investments at Atatürk will not slow down, and they will continue to improve the quality of services offered by the airport,” he said.
The Skytrax World Airport Awards were decided based on 12.1 million surveys filled out at 396 airports. TAV Airports operates the largest number of airports in Turkey among all airport operators — İstanbul Atatürk Airport, Ankara Esenboğa Airport, İzmir Adnan Menderes Airport and Antalya Gazipaşa Airport — as well as two airports each in Georgia, Tunisia and Macedonia. The company is also part of the building and operating of Prince Mohammad Bin Abdulaziz International Airport in Medina.
