British rider Cavendish fastest again in Tour of Turkey, stage two

British rider Mark Cavendish was again the winner on the second stage of the Presidential Cycling Tour of Turkey April 28.

Cavendish won the 175-kilometer route on Alanya to Kemer in three hours, 50 minutes and 17 seconds to maintain the Turquoise Jersey for the overall race leader. Italian riders Francesco Chicchi of the team Fantini and Niccolo Bonifazio of the team Lampre-Merida followed the leader in stage two.The British king of the sprint also won the opening stage April 27.Cavendish, racing for the OmegaPharma – QuickStep team, is also the leader in the sprint standings.

Dutch rider Marc DeMaar of the team Rabobank is leading the King of the Mountains standings, which are the rankings for the climbing stages.
Bonifazio is second in the overall standings and Cannondale’s Elia Viviani is third.

The Tour of Turkey will continue with April 29’s third stage from Finike to Elmalı. The 185-kilometer stage has three

daunting climbing phases and is one of the two rounds, along with the sixth, that will play a huge role in the overall title.
