Democracy and National Unity Day is a relatively young public holiday that remembers the national unity and the martyrs of the 2016 attempted coup. It is celebrated on July 15th, the day of the coup attempt in 2016.
Democracy and National Unity Day or Democracy and Freedoms Day is devoted to all who participated in the overthrow of the coup, with memorial services in recognition of soldiers, officers, and civilians who lost their lives during the coup attempt.
These memorial services can be quite big in bigger cities, but you shouldn’t notice anything out of the ordinary in smaller tourist resorts. Democracy and National Unity Day is a public holiday, meaning official institutions, and some businesses are closed, but shops and museums are open as usual.
