PROPOSALS for the Soke Airport project, designed in the 2006 Master Zoning Plan under the lead of Soke Mayor Necdet Ozekmekci, are back on the table, it has emerged.

The Airport project was planned in the first place to improve the marketing of the agricultural products as well as of the organized industrial zone; to support the logistics of the congress centre to be built in Kusadasi; and to make a closer transfer point to the tourist resorts of Kusadasi and Didim.

South Aegean Development Agency (GEKA) has applied to the government for the project.

GEKA stated that they were willing to support the project and asked for the feasiblity report at a meeting held at District Governorship.

District Governor Mehmet Demirezer, Soke Vice Mayor Levent Tuna, President of Soke Chamber of Commerce Suleyman Toyran, Commodity Exchange President Bertan Balcik, Soke Organized Industrial Zone Chairman Levent Candal, and Soke Municipality Director of Technical Works Yuksel Ertercan were present at the meeting.

GEKA specialists Mehmet Sert, Yeliz Saribas and Dilek Keles briefed the group about the possible improvements that could be carried out by GEKA.

Soke District Governor Mehmet Demirezer said: “We will prepare the feasibility report to prove that Soke Airport is a requirement.

“Then the applications will start. GEKA states that they can support the project within the scope of Direct Activity Support. We have pushed the button now to build an airport in Soke.”
