Infrastructure Borrowing and Investments – Light at the end of the Tunnel.

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu made a presentation regarding his Ministry's 2025 budget at the TBMM General Assembly. Speaking about Turkey's giant projects carried out with the build-operate-transfer model, Minister Uraloğlu announced the date when some of these will be transferred to the public. GIANT PROJECTS WILL BE TRANSFERRED TO THE PUBLIC Uraloğlu said that they (the public) will receive the:
  1. Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge in 2028
  2. Northern Marmara Highway
  3. Çamlıca Highway in 2030
and that when they do, the Ministry will no longer need an allocation. Reminding that they have implemented a total of 74 projects and that the amount of these projects in the years they were implemented was 51 billion dollars, Uraloğlu said, "If we did it today, it would be 83 billion dollars. I wish you had supported us so that we could have done more." Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge The aim in building this bridge together with the railway on it was to connect Europe to Asia and to pass trains over this bridge together with Baku-Tbilisi-Kars and take them to Europe.  The Bridge was completed in 2016 at a cost of approximately 3 billion Dollars. The bridge is the first in the world to have a rail transit system on the same deck. The bridge is 59 meters wide and has a tower height of 322 meters. With a span of 1,408 meters and a total length of 2,164 meters, the bridge is known to be "the world's longest suspension bridge with a rail system on it." Northern Marmara Motorway Highway 7 as it is also known, is a motorway located in the Marmara Region of Turkey. It is a two-way road with a total of eight lanes, four lanes per direction.  The tunnels on the highway route are the widest in Turkey. The Motorway consists of four main sections each of which were tendered out to private companies between 2012 and 2020.  Each section is now operated privately for fixed terms with the year 2030 being the year that the last section transfers back to public hands.  Late 2024/25  will mark the handing back of the 1st section which was the 88 km long Kınalı - Odayeri route started in 2012. In total, 430 kilometres of roads to include gigantic viaducts and tunnels were built at a cost of approx. 13.6 billion tl. The motorway provides transit passage from the European side to the Anatolian side via the Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge in Istanbul. The aim of using this motorway for heavy vehicles that will transit between the two continents is to reduce the traffic load on the ring roads and within Istanbul and to create alternative routes to the ones with high traffic load in Eastern Thrace and the ones with heavy traffic in Eastern Marmara. (ref: Wikipedia) Highway 7 also provides connections to Istanbul Airport and Izmir. Çamlıca The Çamlıca-Libadiye Tunnel, which commenced in February of 2015 to reduces traffic congestion around Çamlıca, Üsküdar, Libadiye.  It provides access to the Çamlıca Mosque which opened in April 2019. The total length of the Çamlıca Libadiye Highway Tunnel, consisting of 3 tubes, is 3,690 meters at a construction cost of the then value (2008 prices) 225 million tl. Ref: various media.
