In the Kuşadası district of Aydın, 27-year-old entrepreneur Hakan Ören has established a yellow scorpion and venom production facility. Ören plans to sell the venom he obtains from yellow scorpions to pharmaceutical companies for $10 million per Liter.
Living in the Güzelçamlı Neighbourhood of Kuşadası, 27-year-old businessman Hakan Ören began researching scorpion species in Türkiye on the internet 3 years ago. In his research, Ören discovered that scorpion venom is an active ingredient in the production of drugs used to treat many diseases, especially cancer.
Having obtained the necessary permits from the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and the General Directorate of Nature Conservation and National Parks, Ören established a yellow scorpion and venom production facility in the Güzelçamlı Neighbourhood in January after completing the necessary R&D work. Raising 500 yellow scorpions of the ‘aegaeobuthus gibbosus’ species, which are seen in the Aegean and Mediterranean regions, in special containers, Ören plans to sell the venom he will obtain to pharmaceutical and cosmetic companies.
“The active ingredient of cancer drugs”
Hakan Ören, who stated that they also raise the species known as the ‘black scorpion’, which is commonly seen in the Southeastern Anatolia Region, on the farm in Güzelçamlı, said, “Our first goal right now is to increase our yellow scorpions. Because no yellow scorpion production farm has been established in Türkiye to date. Yellow and black scorpion venom is very important from a medical perspective. It is an active ingredient in drugs used in the treatment of cancer. However, yellow scorpion venom is an important component of drugs produced especially to eliminate tumor’s in the brain.
We obtain 0.5 grams of venom from yellow scorpions in our monthly milking’s. We freeze the venom at minus 45 degrees with the shock effect and store it in special refrigerators. I aim to sell a Liter of the venom to pharmaceutical and cosmetic companies for 10 million dollars.” (İHA)
