The 14 year old teenager first took up swimming as part of his rehabilitation even though he was originally afraid of water. However, his parents and his coaches encouraged him to pursue the sport.
The teenager who was born without a right arm and left leg has already won 100 races winning 50 the gold medal 50 times. He is now training with the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Sports Club six times a week.
The young swimmer stated that “I am currently preparing for the Paralympic Games, expected to be held in 2021. I want to add new ones to my achievements in these competitions.”
Mehmet Fatih Kurt from the Istanbul Municipality Sports Club said that although Kutlu is young, he is quite experienced and that “Kutlu is an athlete who put his effort to strive every day and whose performance develops rapidly. He became known around the world and achieved success at a young age”.
