Recently locals of Gokeceda, an island in the district of Canakkale province, became concerned when they discovered mass deaths of ladybugs.

A holiday maker encountered the sight of tens of thousands of dead ladybugs floating on the water and reported the issue.

An academic from Canakkale Onsekiz Mart University, Ismail Kasap stated that it could be pesticides used in agricultural areas or insecticides used to fight against mosquitoes which may have led to the deaths.

He also said that there was the possibility that the ladybugs may not have been able to find food due to overpopulation.
