The Environment and Urbanization Ministry has announced plans to bring in new regulations in order to fight against environmental pollution.
The announcement which is soon to be published in the Official Gazette is expected to increase fines for littering the streets and for biological waste pollution.
Previously, the fine for throwing litter on the street was 287 TL, this will now be increased to 351 TL in 2020. Fines for people who do not measure their exhaust emissions will increase from 1,546 TL to 1,895 TL. The fine has also risen for businesses who do not charge for plastic bags in their stores.
Businesses which cause air pollution will see increased fines along with noise pollution. Anyone caught putting waste on soil will be fined 88,499 TL in a bid to protect against biodiversity.
