What You need to be aware of:

You should ensure to read your original rental contract carefully and that you understand the terms and conditions therein before signing same.

Contact us here at the Ege Eye offices/Foreign Citizens Advice Centre if you have any doubts about the legal requirements and regulations involved as we offer our support and advice free of charge and know that we can support you through either the notary or the registration process of agreements/contracts with the authorities here.

Check that you are happy with the condition of the property and its appliances before moving in and make sure the conditions are clearly stated in your contract.

Be aware of the potential additional costs like household maintenance and utilities.

Your personal and contact details should be kept up to date in case of emergency

Once agreement is reached with your Landlord/lady you can go jointly to “The Notary” to notarize the rent contract.

Notarized contracts are legally binding documents. The notary public will verify the identities of signatories and ascertain that all parties understand and are willing participants to said contract.

This ensures prevention of any contract disputes.

A fee will be payable to the Notary Office.

An official Translator must be present, only if your contract is written in English or if one of the parties does not speak Turkish.

Your original rental contract remains the same – it has just been translated into Turkish, signed by all parties and you will receive a copy of that.

You can then use the notarized copy for your Residence Permit application or renewal.  Help is also at hand in the Advice Centre for Residence Permits.

In conclusion, renting property as a non-national in Turkey can be different from what you might experience in your home country, but with accurate advice and support, you can find a suitable rental property and navigate the process smoothly.

Your foreign citizens advice centre office with, experienced volunteers are available to advise and support you through the process.
