The Ponz Charity Social Club recently celebrated the finale evening for this season and handed over a staggering 10,000TL for Kusadaşi’s school for the disabled (Kusadaşi Engelliler Köyü).

Newly based in the Ponz Hotel at Ladies Beach, the club which runs every Thursday evening during the winter months (to be revised for next year) was started by Chairman Robin Wilkinson six years ago.

This season saw an average of 60 people attending the club to meet up with friends and raise cash for the school.

Robin said: “We have had an amazing winter and entertainment consisting of 15 weeks of live music and 15 different entertainers,

plus quiz and curry nights, karaoke and games nights. “We have wonderful support from the local expat community and now the Turkish members are coming to join in the fun”. “It’s a long winter and not that many places open to go to, so we arranged a club in order to raise funds and to have a social club for the winter period where we could all meet up and make new friends.”

The 10,000TL raised was for a project for the school to build a wall and platform in the garden and build animal housing where the school can become more self sufficient.

The club plan to hold some functions throughout the summer (watch this space for more information).

As well as raising money for the Disabled School 300TL was raised  for the Van Earthquake appeal fund.

The Ege Eye continues to support this and many other charities in the area by donati ng papers to the club and regularly supporting them via our website and facebook pages.
