Overseas Ordering – Tax rates effective from 21st August 2024

A new regulation has come into force regarding purchases made from abroad. With the new regulation, the limit for fast shipping purchases made from international e-commerce sites has been reduced from 150 euros to 30 euros. The Decision Concerning the Amendment to the Decision on the Implementation of Certain Articles of the Customs Law No. 4458 ("Decision Amendment") was published in the Official Gazette 5th August, and the changes brought by the Decision Amendment will come into force as of today, August 21st, 2024. While the shopping limit for products arriving from abroad by post or express cargo was reduced from 150 euros to 30 euros, the tax on cargo coming from the European Union (EU) was increased from 18 percent to 30 percent, and from 30 percent to 60 percent for cargo coming from non-EU countries. It also required that the purchased items not exceed 30 kilograms. Items exceeding 30 kilograms would be subject to commercial customs laws, and an additional 48 percent customs tax would be applied when calculating items exceeding this weight.
