As part of a project undertaken by the Turkish Association of Travel Agents (TÜRSAB) to attract disabled tourists from across Turkey and abroad to İstanbul, TÜRSAB is now providing a free shuttle service to the İstanbul Archaeological Museums as well as archaeological sites in the city.

One aspect of the project, co-sponsored by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the İstanbul Development Agency (İSTKA), seeks to improve the accessibility of the İstanbul Archaeological Museums by offering free transportation to the museum for disabled and elderly individuals.

As a new part of the project, TÜRSAB has organized shuttle buses that pick up elderly and disabled people at Gülhane Park in İstanbul’s Sultanahmet neighborhood and drop them off at the İstanbul Archaeological Museums. Shuttle buses also pick up people from İstanbul Modern in the city’s Karaköy neighborhood and take them to historical and archaeological sites around the city.

According to TÜRSAB, the shuttle service has been warmly welcomed and already increased the number of visitors to these sites.

This project is being carried out under a protocol signed by TÜRSAB and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism in 2009.
