ANKARA — an agreement to boost trade ties was signed between Netherlands Foreign Trade and Development Minister Lilianne Ploumen and her Turkish counterpart, Nihat Zeybekçi on Tuesday in Ankara.
Zeybekçi stated at the Joint Economic and Trade Committee (JETCO) agreement signing ceremony that Netherlands is a strategic trade partner and the volume of trade between the two countries went from 2,5 billion to 5,2 billion euros in the last 12 years.
“Turkey is moving towards becoming a knowledgeable society that can compete with others,” Ploumen said, adding that the agreement also provides a mechanism that connects institutions directly.
Zeybekci said that Turkey is relying on the Dutch support in finding a solution for the free trade agreement problem between Turkey and the EU and gave a handmade platter adorned with ottoman motifs to the Dutch minister as a gift.
