On December 17th the Turkish Astronomical Society will announce the names to be given to the star and its exoplanet which is currently known as WASP-52.
All over the country students have taken part in the campaign to name the star and Ibrahim Kucuk, the head of the Turkish Astronomical Society stated that they have many creative names to choose from.
At present six names have met the criteria of the IAU and these will be judged and decided on December 17th.
The star is approx 457 light years away from earth and is appears to be a gas giant similar to Jupiter.
The IAU have said that over a hundred countries have signed up to name a planet and that their aim is to “create awareness of our place in the universe and to reflect on how the Earth would potentially be perceived by a civilisation on another planet.
