Due to Turkey’s location the country has witnessed many eras and empires which have left their mark in every region.
It is said that the country has more ancient ruins (many of which remain nearly intact) than anywhere else in the world.
As of today, 1st June 2020, the Culture and Tourism Ministry has approved an array of measures which will be implemented for excavations to re-start.
The plan is to start 400 excavations, 135 surface analyses and six underwater researches with local and international scientists, and which it is hoped to be completed at the end of the year.
All areas will be disinfected at certain time periods and all personnel will adhere to physical distancing rules and will wear masks and gloves.
