Drawing attention to the increasing number of fake alcohol deaths in Istanbul, Prof. Dr. Afife Ayla Kabalak evaluated the deadly effects of fake alcohol on Haberler.com.

Prof. Dr. Kabalak explained the symptoms such as vision loss, respiratory failure and blueing of the skin seen after consuming fake alcohol.

Deaths caused by counterfeit alcohol in Istanbul have been a cause for concern in recent days. Anesthesiology and Reanimation Specialist Prof. Dr. Afife Ayla Kabalak, who was a guest on presenter Melis Yaşar on Haberler.com, said, “The risk of death from counterfeit alcohol is extremely high, reaching 50 percent,” drawing attention to critical symptoms.

“IT IS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO DISTINGUISH A FAKE BEVERAGE FROM A REAL BEVERAGE”

Anesthesiology and Reanimation Specialist Prof. Dr. Afife Ayla Kabalak stated that fake alcohol cannot be distinguished from real alcohol in terms of appearance. “It is extremely difficult to distinguish fake alcohol from real alcohol. Consumers face a serious danger without realizing it,” she said.

“EVEN INHALED METHYL ALCOHOL IS EXTREMELY HARMFUL”

Kabalak emphasized that the methyl alcohol found in counterfeit alcohol is dangerous not only when consumed but even when inhaled, and said, “Even inhaling methyl alcohol is extremely harmful.”

“METHYL ALCOHOL TURNS INTO A VERY SERIOUS TOXIC SUBSTANCE IN THE LIVER OVER TIME”

Kabalak stated that methyl alcohol turns into a toxic substance in the liver when taken into the body, and that this situation can cause permanent damage to many organs.

“TEMPORARY LOSS OF VISION, RESPIRATORY FAILURE, LOSS OF CONSCIOUSNESS, LIVER AND KIDNEY DAMAGES ARE AMONG THE SYMPTOMS”

Referring to the symptoms that counterfeit alcohol causes in the body, Kabalak said, “Temporary vision loss, respiratory failure, loss of consciousness, liver and kidney damage are among the symptoms that can be seen after counterfeit alcohol.”

Stating that the risk of death from consuming counterfeit alcohol is quite high, Prof. Dr. Kabalak said, “The risk of death from counterfeit alcohol is extremely high, reaching 50 percent. We must definitely be conscious about this issue.”

 “BLUE COLORING OF THE SKIN MAY OCCUR DUE TO LACK OF OXYGEN”
