In the Kabaduz district of Ordu in Turkey’s Black Sea region a 300 year old tree which had fallen, has surprised everyone by growing new saplings.
The tree which would reach 20 metres in height has 17 new saplings sprouting from its trunk.
Serdar Simsek a voluntary tourism ambassador applied to the Provincial Directorate of Environment and Urbanization and the Provincial Directorate of Culture and Tourism in order to protect the tree. He described his feelings when he first witnessed the tree as a “truly spectacular moment”. Work is continuing to declare the vicinity a “natural protection area” and for the tree to be registered as a “historical monument tree”.
You will often find new life appearing on seemingly dead trees as you can see from the image above, and as four of the saplings in Ordu’s tree have already been damaged, it is necessary to put the tree under protection.
