The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition is the largest and most prestigious olive oil quality contest. Its annual list of award winners is the authoritative guide to the world’s best olive oils and the dedicated producers who craft them.
As they state in their website “making great olive oil takes determination, skill and obsessive attention to details, (and) their Judging Panel is a team of the world’s leading experts who analyze over five days the largest collection of extra virgin olive oils ever assembled.
“Yerlim / Ania Pregreen”, which are produced in the region of Kusadasi received two gold medals in the category of “Organic”.
Gursel Tonbul, Owner of Degirmen Eko Investmen attaches great importance to organic agriculture. He explained that “the olive oil, which is squeezed from the Memecik olive grown in Davutlar Mahallesi and its vicinity, is one of the most important olives in Kusadasi, and adorns many tables”.
Tonbul says that “olive harvesting and squeezing starts in the last week of September and that Memecik olives, are delivered to our own factory for squeezing within a few hours on the same day.
He also stated that “the most important feature of the olive oil is that it is very low acid and the value of polyphenol that adds value to oil is very high”.
It is not only Kusadasi who should be congratulated in the gold medal winners list, Izmir and Mugla province have also received awards.
