As of February 1, a revolutionary regulation will begin on electricity bills. High-consumption subscribers will now pay more. So, who will be affected by this change?

The regulation, which will be implemented on electricity and natural gas bills as of February 1, will directly affect subscribers with high consumption. In the new model, subscribers who consume more than 417 kilowatt-hours of electricity per month will purchase the service at real costs. This means higher bills for citizens who consume more than 5,000 kilowatt-hours per year.

If the limit is exceeded for subscribers with high consumption, their bills will be doubled.

Who Will Pay More Bills?

This regulation will be reflected differently in residences and commercial establishments. In residences, subscribers paying a bill over 1,050 lira will fall into the high consumption bracket. In commercial establishments, this limit has been set at 5,000 lira. While the average household electricity bill in Turkey is 414 lira, the new system will only affect those exceeding a certain consumption level.

How will it be reflected on bills?

For consumptions above the specified limit, the amount subscribers will pay will be doubled. For example, a subscriber who previously paid a bill of 1,050 lira will have a new bill of 2,000 lira. However, there will be no change for consumptions below the limit. Those who consume 500 lira of electricity will continue to pay the same amount.

How Many People Will Be Affected?

There are approximately 40 million residential subscribers in Turkey. The new regulation will affect 3 percent of these subscribers, or 1.2 million people. With this change, the state’s 50 billion lira Treasury support for electricity and natural gas bills will be removed.

Common Areas Also Included

The regulation covers not only individual houses but also common areas in apartments and sites. The electricity consumption of independent sections such as elevators and automatic staircases will also be affected by this regulation. However, mosques and cemevis will be exempt from this practice.

The main purpose of the regulation is to ensure that high-consumption users contribute more to energy costs, thus balancing overall energy costs. It also aims to ease the Treasury’s burden on electricity and natural gas support.  Source: https://yenisokegazetesi.com/
