At the Foreign Citizen Advice Center, Kusadasi region, we find that there is ever increasing obstacles being put in front of all applicants. The inconsistencies are very evident. There are reform proposals coming from the Government here in Turkey which, are expected to be released gradually over a time period starting in October. We expect that we will learn what the new Migration Policy will be and if you read further, you will get an indication of what is ahead.
An interview given to the Sabah by Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya regarding the new migration policy.
Yerlikaya had said that those entering Turkey as tourists would not be granted residence permits. The minister made the following statements:
“You can come to Turkey from 95 countries without a visa. You enter as a tourist, travel for 6 months. Then you say, ‘I want to get a residence permit.’ (we assume what is meant is: do not think if you get a rental contract you will become a resident)
Our policy is this: You go with the intention you came with! If you come as a tourist, you cannot say, ‘I want to be a shepherd.’ (He is making a joke here, but his intention is clear)
Go to your hometown. Apply for a work permit from there and I will evaluate you. Tell me your intention and I will give you a residence permit accordingly.”
Yerlikaya also said that the queues at the Immigration Administration will also come to an end. The Minister of Interior spoke as follows:
“There will be no queues at the immigration offices. We have started a new project. Residence permits can now be obtained from notaries. (this is a proposal to alleviate queues in some regions/districts – so far Kusadasi does not have this problem)
Residence permits for over 100,000 foreign students will be issued by the student affairs departments of the universities they study at. The Immigration Office will complete the process by taking into account intelligence and other algorithms.”
Finally, Yerlikaya said that it is planned to take fingerprints from foreigners upon entry to the country, as in the US and the UK. Source: https://www.turizmajansi.com/
