An unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), commonly known as a drone, is an aircraft without any human pilot, crew, or passengers on board. They were originally developed through the twentieth century for military missions and by the twenty-first, they had become essential assets to most militaries. As control technologies improved and costs fell, their use expanded to many non-military applications These include aerial photography, precision agriculture, forest fire monitoring, river monitoring, environmental monitoring, policing and surveillance and infrastructure inspections.
In Istanbul a shipping company made a delivery between two continents with an unmanned ariel vehicle.
Known as Yurtici Kargo the flight took place between the Cubuklu and Emirgan districts of the city.
The UAV system works with its own integrated smart cargo lockers. The courier loads the package and selects the delivery destination on a smart screen.
Deputy general manager of Cargo Operations Fahrettin Hamzaoglu, provides the information about the flight between Çubuklu and Emirgan, at Yurtiçi Kargo. He stated that they continue to work on scenarios where the entire process can be carried out with autonomous vehicles.
“We continue our efforts to incorporate the entire process into a fully automated system, from the point where the shipments are picked up from the warehouses to the point where they are delivered to the recipient,” Hamzaoglu said.
