A decree of the Council of Ministers in Turkiye, in September 2016 decided that summertime hours would become permanent in the country.
This meant that Turkiye would be on daylight saving time all year round unlike other countries, who do so twice yearly. Before 2016 the situation was that Turkiye acted in accordance with the European countries beginning and ending dates. Turkiye were three hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) in winter as well as summer – two hours ahead of continental Europe in winter.
Note: In North America, (United states and neighbouring countries) daylight saving time ends on November 5th at 02:00am each year when clocks are turned back one hour.
While criticisms continue regarding the failure to implement winter time, Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alparslan Bayraktar made statements regarding the winter time implementation and said, “We are not considering any changes, but provinces can implement their practices regarding working and school hours.” Ref: https://www.aydinpost.com/
On Sunday 27th October, 2024, clocks will go back one hour in European countries and the UK. However, permanent daylight saving time, which began in Turkey in 2016, will continue.
Turkey will be 2 hours ahead of GMT (GMT+2) on October 27 Oct 2024 – Daylight Saving Time Ends in Europe When local daylight time is about to reach Sunday, 27 October 2024, 03:00:00 clocks are turned backward 1 hour to Sunday, 27 October 2024, 02:00:00 local standard time instead. Sunrise and sunset will be 1 hour earlier on 27 Oct 2024 than the day before. There will be more light in the morning and less light in the evening. Ref: https://www.timeanddate.com/
