As Turkey faces the onslaught of what promises to be a stormy winter, the General Directorate of Meteorology forecast on Sunday more cold, rainy and snowy weather across the country this week.
After severe winds and rainfall hit İzmir and Antalya hard on the weekend, meteorologists said the southern Mediterranean shores and central Anatolia will experience similar stormy weather, with winds reaching up to 60 kilometers per hour. The temperature in eastern Anatolia’s Kars province dropped to minus 12 degrees Celsius Monday night.Meanwhile, the provinces of İstanbul, Kocaeli, Giresun and Sakarya can count on continued showers and thunderstorms.
Southern and western Turkey can expect more rainfall and central and eastern Turkey will likely see continued snowfall this week, adding to a winter season that began with unseasonably cold temperatures and snowfall back in October.
The provinces of Erzincan, Tunceli, Bingöl, Elazığ and Adıyaman can expect a mix of heavy rain and snow. Residents of these provinces, as well as of Antalya and Anamur, have been warned to take precautions against possible floods and probable transportation delays.
