Last night in a television address President Recep Erdogan stated a partial curfew starting at midnight as part of measures against the coronavirus outbreak.
The country has imposed a partial curfew for citizens younger than 20 years of age.
At present 31 provinces are under quarantine along with 51 towns. The president also announced a 15-day ban on vehicles leaving or entering 31 provinces, including Istanbul, Izmir, Bursa, and Adana. This excludes deliveries of necessities, like food, medicine and cleaning supplies and logistics vehicles approved by the Interior Ministry.
There is already a ban in and out in Aydin and its surrounding districts and the road from Kusadasi to Izmir has allegedly been closed to traffic.
The president also said that the wearing of face-masks in crowded areas including stores is also now mandatory, and that the “gathering of crowds in all open spaces, including streets, is not allowed”.
He also stated that “social distancing should be at least three steps (and that) violators will be fined”.
At present the coronavirus has spread to at least 181 countries and regions and Turkey has registered over 20,000 cases. The death toll stands at 425 and a total of 484 people have fully recovered.
Data compiled by the U.S.’ Johns Hopkins University shows worldwide infections surging past 1 million, with more than 57,000 deaths. Over 225,000 people have recovered.
